Born on June 29 1982 in Staten Island, New York Jost comes from a family with ties to service and education. His mother, Kerry J. Kelly holds the position of officer at the New York City Fire Department while his father, Daniel A. Jost previously taught at Staten Island Technical High School. The talented Jost has a brother named Casey Jost who is also involved in the entertainment industry as a writer and producer.

During his high school years at Regis High School in Manhattan, he showcased his writing skills by serving as the editor of the school newspaper known as The Owl. Following his time at Regis High School he went on to graduate with honors from Harvard University in 2004.
